TYPES OF DEEPAM AND THEIR BENEFITS

                                           Types Of Deepam

Types Of Deepam

Enough of my philosophical and pseudo intellectual musings.Lets deal with some practical aspect of Agni. Tantra and Yoga heavily rely on practice with Fire to convey message to the deities as well as for personal growth in all facets of life.

We have always seen Diyas,Deepams a.k.a Lamps in almost all the temples of India. It is one of the most easily accessible items one can do at home to prevent misfortunes and promote their all round  well being and prosperity.

No long lectures about how one should learn to spread light like deepam.

The cultural rule is to always light a deepak during puja. Why ? Lighting a deepam increases sattvic vibrations in the house and the room to the least.

The deepam can be lit of various substances but Ghee and Oil is predominant.

Lighting a lamp of Ghee is the best possible option but if one wants lighting Mahua oil and Sesame oil and Mustard oil also has immense benefits.

Below is the list of Deities who are easily appeased by specific oils, even though other oils work none the less. :

Ghee             : Gram devta,Trimurti,Lakshmi,Ganesha , Kubera , Kuldevta, Kuldevi.
Til                 : Narayana, Saturn and also to remove hurdles in life , keeping away poisonous snakes.
Mustard        : Saturn and also to ward of diseases
Jasmine         : For Maha Lakshmi and Kuber
Coconut Oil  : Ganesha

Apart from the specific oils..the wicks also do matter a lot :

Single wick (Ek Mukhi ) for normal benefit.
Two wicks (Dvimukhi ) brings harmony and peace in all kinds of relations.
Three wicks (Trimukhi ) Blesses with progeny.
Four wicks (Chaturmukhi ) brings all round prosperity and sumptuous food.
Five wicks (Panchmukhi) showers akhand aishwaryam or Wealth.
Six wicks (Shastmukhi ) blesses with akhand Gyan  & Vairagyam

Apart from this also the type of lamp matters :

Gold lamps                    : For wealth, business expansion , prevention of diseases like cancer.

Silver lamps                  : Safe Guard against poverty.

Iron lamps                    : For tantra and Saturn troubles

Earthen / Brass Lamps : For rigorous religious rituals.

Lemon lamp                 : For tantric purpose , appeasing Alakshmi, exorcism.

Beet lamps                    : Pacify Mars and prevent violent deaths and war

Coconut lamps             : For progeny and overall stability

Mango Leaf Lamps      : Inviting prosperity

Paan (betel leaf ) lamps : Warding off evil spirits

Peepal leaf : Destroying disease carrying pathogens

Agnipurana praises the Ghee lamp the most but it also states that for cleansing of the chakras and nadis. Ghee lamp purifies the Manipur and Anahat Chakras and mustard oil and til oil purifies the Muladhar and Swadishtana Chakras. Also according to Agni Purana, Ghee lamp cleanses the Koshas of the human. Mainly the Pranamaya Kosha and the Manomaya Kosha , which is used for healthy living and developing knowledge.

Also when we get a vision of a deity its due to the Agni tatva ,the absolute fire element. And when we feel the touch of supreme without any external reason it is due to the vayu tattva. And a Ghee lamp helps in cleansing both this elements in our body, making communion easy with God.
